Parthenons
Throughout the history of Nashville, Tennessee, classical civic ideals helped foster its reputation as “Athens of the South” — culminating in the 1897 construction of the world’s only full-scale, detailed replica of the Parthenon. This pair of prints highlights how cities can appropriate ideas, as well as physical artifacts, from other (or ancient) cultures, all while constructing identities of their own.
